Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair

CRANKSHAFT REAR OIL SEAL REMOVAL / INSTALLATION

1. Remove the transmission.
2. Remove the flywheel.
3. Cut the oil seal lip with a razor knife.

Note:

Clean the crankshaft rear oil seal and cylinder block prior to removing the rear oil seal.

4. Remove the oil seal by using a screwdriver protected with a rag. 

1. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Installation Note

Note:

Apply engine oil to the seal and seal edge.

1. Install crankshaft rear oil seal on Rear Main Seal Installer Special Service Tool (SST) 49 UN01 070.
2. Install (SST) 49 UN01 070 and the crankshaft rear oil seal on the crankshaft.

1. Alternate SST 49 UN01 070 bolt tightening to crankshaft rear oil seal.
