Subject:
UNWANTED AIR FLOW FROM VENTS DURING HEAVY ACCELERATION
APPLICABLE MODELS
All 1994 B-Series Vehicles without A/C
DESCRIPTION
Unwanted airflow from the dash vents may occur when the heater system is "Off" and the vehicle is under heavy acceleration. This is caused by the
"Fresh Air" door opening when vacuum to the door actuator is lost. Vacuum is lost during heavy acceleration and other low engine vacuum conditions.
To maintain actuator vacuum (and "Fresh Air" door in a closed position) during these conditions, a vacuum hose reservoir/check valve assembly is
available.
Customers complaining of this concern should have the vehicle inspected and, if necessary, have the assembly installed.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1.
Verify the concern.
2.
Place the vacuum reservoir against the blower case and mark the mounting hole locations. Refer to Fig. 1.
NOTE:
Reservoir's position must not interfere with hoses or harnesses.
3.
Remove blower assembly from vehicle.
4.
Drill two (2) 1/16in. (1.6 mm) holes (marked in step 2) in the blower case.
5.
Install the vacuum reservoir using two (2) screws.
6.
Disconnect the existing vacuum check valve from the engine vacuum harness and the main wiring harness.
