Subject:
P0733, MIL LIGHT ON AND/OR DELAYED 1-3 SHIFT
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)VINs
All 2001 B3000 with automatic transmission.
DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may exhibit a flashing OD OFF light and/or a delayed 1-3 shift with DTC P0733 stored in memory. This may occur during cold
temperatures (40 F or lower) and during light throttle acceleration after start up.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1.
Verify customer concern.
2.
Determine if condition is caused by an internal transmission component and repair as necessary according to Workshop Manual section 05-01.
3. Clear all DTCs.
-
If condition is still present or returns after repair, reprogram PCM to the latest level calibration using WDS V13 or later. (Refer to PCM
Calibration chart shown).
Note:
Place an Authorized Modification Label on a cleaned surface in a prominent location - adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Label.
On the label, fill in the date, new calibration number, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed.
-
If condition has been fixed, proceed to STEP 4.
4.
Verify repair.
Note:
An adaptive learning strategy in the PCM controls the shift feel and timing for the transmission. This feature is designed to increase durability and
provide consistent shift feel over the life of the vehicle. As a result of this reprogramming, the transmission may have firm and/or soft shifts. This
operation is considered normal and will not effect function or durability of the transmission. Once the vehicle is at operating temperature it may take
several shifts at the same operating condition for the transmission to properly adapt. Over time the learning process will fully update transmission
operation. The more varied the driving habits, speed and torque, the longer it may take to adapt; but also the more complete the process will be.
Additionally, whenever the battery is disconnected or a new battery installed, the strategy must relearn.
