Engine Block Heater: Service and Repair
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
1. Remove the radiator cap.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
3. Raise the vehicle on a hoist; refer to General Information.
4. Remove the air deflector.
5. Drain the engine coolant; refer to Engine Coolant Replacement.
6. Remove in order shown in figure.
7. Install in the reverse order of removal.
Block Heater Cable Removal Note
Use door trim panel removing tool or equivalent to remove wiring from battery tray, inner fender, engine mount brackets and cylinder block.
Block Heater Removal Note
1. Make sure block heater electrical terminal is pointing to the 12 o'clock position before removing heater.
2. Loosen the screw.
3. Pry the block heater from the cylinder block.
4. Clean inside diameter of core plug hole machined surface and hole entrance. Remove any burrs at hole entrance to avoid damage to O-ring.
5. Cover rubber O-ring with a liberal coating of premium long-life grease or equivalent.
