PRECAUTIONS FOR MODULE REPROGRAMMING

DESCRIPTION

This Service Bulletin provides precautions for module reprogramming and actions to take when problems occur during reprogramming.

ACTIONS RECOMMENDED

1.

Preparation for Reprogramming.

a.

Perform regular maintenance of the PC to keep it stable. You should defrag the hard disc drive (HDD) [relocate the the split files
(fragmentation) to sequential files] of the laptop PC unless it has been defragged regularly. To defrag the computer:

NOTE:

Close all other applications before defragging and DO NOT operate, resume, or turn (shut) off the PC while defragging.

Select "Start," "Accessories," "System Tools," then "Disk Defragmenter." The Disk Defrag screen appears.

Select "C drive," then click "Analyze."

When defrag is necessary, a message appears on the screen - click "Defragment."

When defrag is not necessary, a message appears on the screen - click "Close."

Do not run other applications.

c.

Use the A/C power adaptor for the laptop PC (IDS). For the pocket PC (PDS), make sure the battery is fully charge in advance.

d.

Make sure the vehicle side connector and the DLC cable are firmly connected. DO NOT touch the DLC cable anymore after verifying this.

e.

Connect a battery charger to the vehicle. Only start reprogramming after making sure the battery voltage is normal.

f.

Save the session when the vehicle identification is done. This way, if reprogramming fails, you may resume the reprogramming session from
the saved session.

g.

Perform the self-test and verify no CMDTCs are detected before or after reprogramming single or multiple modules.
