TACH NEEDLE STUCK ON THE WRONG SIDE
OF THE STOPPER PIN

The tachometer needle may become stuck on the wrong side of the stopper pin. If a customer complains of this concern, inspect the vehicle and if
necessary, repair according to this bulletin.

Explain to the customer that revving the engine to a high RPM prior to engine shut off is unnecessary.

Tachometer replacement is not necessary for this repair.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1.
Verify the concern.
2.
Verify that the ROOM fuse is installed.
3.
Start the engine and increase RPM to approximately 5500 rpm or until the needle begins to move away from the stopper pin (counter-clockwise).
4.
Decrease the engine speed to idle and turn ignition off.
5.
Verify that the needle moves back to zero.
NOTE:
Verify that the needle moves back to zero.
NOTE:
Take care not to damage the needle or soil the meter surface.
1997 - 98 Protege
The tach needle will not return to zero if the engine is turned off at 4000 rpm or higher when the ROOM fuse is not installed. Refer to the illustration
above. The tach needle will continue to rotate clockwise until it rests on the wrong side of the stopper pin.
