EGR Valve Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

System Inspection

1. Remove the ECM. 

2. Connect the SSTs to the ECM.

3. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the EGR control valve and connect the vacuum pump to the EGR control valve.
4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
5. Measure the voltage at the terminals as shown in the table.

Specification

6. If not as specified, inspect the harness between EGR valve position sensor and ECM.
7. If the harnesses are OK, replace the EGR valve position sensor.

Inspection

1. Disconnect EGR valve position sensor connector.
2. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the EGR control valve and connect the vacuum pump to the EGR control valve.
3. Use an ohmmeter to measure the resistance between the terminals as shown in the table.

Specification

4. If not as specified, replace the EGR control valve.
