APPLICABLE MODELS:
All 1995-1997 Millenia Models with KJ engine with a VIN of JM1T222* V1 305636 and lower.
NOTE:
These are estimated VINs because the modification has been carried out at the parts manufacturer.
DESCRIPTION:
A grinding noise may be heard during engine cranking (starter operation). The starter pinion hits the ring gear on the drive plate due to insufficient
chamfering of the ring gear, causing abnormal wear, resulting in the noise.
The inspection for ring gear chamfering has been improved to reduce manufacturing error. Customers complaining of this concern should have the
vehicle inspected according to the instructions in this bulletin and, if necessary, repaired.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1.
Remove the under cover from the transmission as shown in Fig. 1.
2.
Inspect ring gear.

If worn, proceed to step 3.

If not worn, inspect related parts for noise source.
