2. Secure the mounting rubber in a vise.
3. Loosen the nut several turns, but do not remove it.

4. Assemble the Special Service Tool (SST).
5. Secure the shock absorber in the SST.
6. Compress the coil spring by using the SST and remove the nut.

INSPECTION 
NOTE:  This procedure is performed with the shock out of the coil spring.

Do the following and replace the shock absorber if necessary.

1. Inspect for damage and oil leakage.
2. Compress the shock absorber rod and release it, and verify that the rod extends fully at a normal speed.
3. Compress and extend the shock rod at least three (3) times. Verify that the operational force does not change and that there is no unusual noise.

INSTALLATION 

1. Follow removal steps outlined in the illustration in reverse order for installation, noting the following.
2. Temporarily assemble the mount, upper spring seat and coil spring to the shock absorber, as shown.
