Clutch Switch: Description and Operation

PURPOSE

The clutch switch signals the engine control module (ECM) that the clutch is either engaged or disengaged.

CONSTRUCTION

The clutch switch and the neutral switch are "ON/OFF" type switches. Both switches share the same ECM input terminal 1V.

OPERATION

The ECM uses the inputs in calculations for the control of these output systems and/or devices:

Ignition control module (timing control)

-

Fuel injection quantity

-

Idle air control valve (idle speed)

-

Purge solenoid valve (purge control)

-

Pressure regulator control solenoid valves (fuel pressure)

-

EGR solenoid valves (EGR operation)

-

A/C cut-off.
