Idle Speed/Throttle Actuator - Mechanical: Testing and Inspection

Air Valve Testing

1.

Drain engine coolant below level of air valve.

2.

Disconnect hoses and remove valve from intake manifold.

3.

Cool valve to 32°F (0°C).

4.

Mark shaft as shown on image.

5.

Warm valve with a hot air gun and verify that shaft moves in direction of arrow.

6.

If not as specified, replace valve using a new gasket and torque mounting bolts to 43 - 69 in lb (4.9 - 7.8 Nm).
