Air Bag: Service and Repair
After completion any on vehicle service procedure, verify system operation by checking airbag warning lamp. If system is operating normally, the
warning lamp will come on when the ignition switch is turned On, then go Off after approximately 6 seconds.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove airbag module mounting nuts, then disconnect clock spring connector (orange and blue).
3. Remove ground strap from steering column hub, then the airbag module from vehicle.
4. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Do not use an ohmmeter for inspection of airbag module, it may cause an accidental deployment of the airbag.
b. When carrying a live (unactivated) airbag module, ensure trim cover is pointed away from your body.
c. When placing a live airbag module on any surface always face trim cover upward.
d. When handling a deployed airbag module, wear gloves and safety glasses. Deployed airbag modules may contain deposits of sodium
hydroxide.
