DESCRIPTION
Small hair-line cracks (approx. 5 - 15 mm long) may develop on horizontal surfaces (hood, roof and trunk). These cracks may be the result of excessive
paint thickness, poor clear-coat durability and/or over baking paint surfaces. To correct this concern, the paint materials and processes have changed.
These changes were implemented with the 1996 model.
Customers complaining of this concern should have the vehicle inspected and if necessary repaired according to this bulletin.
NOTE:
Service managers should send a copy of this bulletin to their bodyshop personnel.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1.
Verify concern.
2.
Sand the affected panel(s) until the cracked paint film is removed.
NOTE:
In most cases, it will not be necessary to sand the paint past the primer.
3.
Refinish the affected panel(s) using standard bodyshop procedure.
NOTE:
The original brand of paint used on these vehicles is PPG. If other than PPG paint is selected, confirm that the brand is PPG compatible.
