DESCRIPTION
When the outside air temperature decreases below 32~F (0~C), the power steering pump may possibly make a "whine" noise when the engine is first
started. The duration of the noise may be from 30 seconds to 2 minutes, depending on the outside temperature.
The cause of this noise is the increased viscosity of the power steering oil at such a low temperature. This may cause a cavitation noise due to resistance
to oil flow in the pump. This resistance to oil flow will not damage the power steering pump or the power steering system.
If you encounter a 1988 626/MX-6 vehicle with this condition, please repair the power steering system according to the repair procedure in this bulletin.
