Steering Shaft: Adjustments
Steering Angle Transfer Shaft

The steering angle transfer shaft should be adjusted if it is disconnected from front or rear steering gear, after adjustment of wheel alignment, or if the
rear steering angle is not correct.
Improper installation of 4 wheel steering transfer shaft may effect control of vehicle and result in risk of accident or personal injury.
1.
Raise and support vehicle, then remove Cover B and joint bolt A, Fig. 3.
2.
Slide shaft out of joint.
3.
Remove plug from rear steering gear and, sighting through hole, turn steering angle input shaft to align notch in input shaft with center of hole.
4.
Remove set bolt attached to rear steering gear and install it in steering gear to set input shaft, torquing to 43-69 inch lbs. After input shaft is set,
manually turn rear joint and ensure shaft does not move.
5.
Lower vehicle.
6.
Check front and rear wheel alignment, adjusting as necessary. Refer to SUSPENSION.
7.
Drive vehicle and mark steering straight ahead position.
8.
Install shaft and rear joint removed in step 1, torquing bolt to 191-269 inch lbs.
9.
Install and tighten new wire on joint boot.
10.
Install set bolt in rear steering gear, torquing to 14-21 ft. lbs. After installing steering angle transfer shaft, check steering angle transfer shaft
alignment.
