This bulletin replaces the previously released bulletin Cat F, 002/96.

DESCRIPTION
During normal driving conditions or at idle, a "buzzing" or "rattling" noise may be heard from the exhaust system. The noise is caused by a loose heat
shield attached to the muffler or catalyst.
Customers complaining of this noise should have the vehicle inspected and if necessary, repaired according to the information in this bulletin.

NOTE: 

DO NOT replace the catalytic converter or muffler to eliminate this noise. Service Managers should file a copy of this bulletin in their NVH manual

REPAIR PROCEDURES

1.

Verify the complaint.

2.

Install two (2) worm clamps around the catalyst and/or muffler. Refer to Fig. 1.

3.

Align the clamps to secure the heat shield to the muffler and/or catalyst.

4.

Tighten the clamps to no more than 6.8Nm (60 in-lbs).

5.

Trim the excess "ear" from the end of the clamp to 2.5cm (1 in.).

6.

Verify repair.
