Extension Housing: Service and Repair
1.
Raise and support vehicle.
2.
Scribe alignment marks on driveshaft end yoke and rear axle companion flange, then remove driveshaft.
3.
Support transmission with suitable jack, then disconnect speedometer cable from extension housing.
4.
Remove rear support to crossmember attaching nuts or bolts, then raise transmission slightly and remove rear support from extension housing.
5.
Loosen extension housing attaching bolts and allow transmission to drain.
6.
Remove attaching bolts and the extension housing.
7.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. When installing housing to case, ensure that parking pawl actuating rod is correctly seated in guide cup bore of housing.
b. Torque extension housing to case attaching bolts to 27-39 ft. lbs.
