APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2001-2005 Tribute with Automatic Transaxle
DESCRIPTION
Some 2001-2005 Tributes with automatic transaxle, operating in cold climates [approximately -20 F (- 28 C) and colder], may exhibit a transmission
control indicator lamp (TCIL) on with various transaxle shift and/or engagement concerns. The conditions may include:

Harsh, delayed or intermittent engagements
^
Loss of, or slipping, forward and/or reverse engagement
^
2-3 upshift flare
^
Burnt transaxle fluid
^
DTC P1783 and/or P0733
These conditions may be the result of inadequate fluid flow, caused by extreme cold temperatures.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1.
Verify concern.
2.
Install the cold weather Cooler Bypass Kit according to the instruction sheet included in the kit.
NOTE:
Prior to bypass kit installation, repair any transmission defects or failure conditions per normal Workshop Manual procedures.
3.
Always back flush and flush cooler lines to remove contaminants afier repairs. Clear all DTCs and verify repair.
