Seat Belt Buckle: Service and Repair
Safety Belt Buckle - Driver Side, Rear Removal/Installation

SAFETY BELT BUCKLE - DRIVER SIDE, REAR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

WARNING: All safety belt assemblies including retractors, buckles, belt tension sensor (BTS), if equipped, front seat belt buckle support assemblies
(slide bar), if equipped, shoulder belt height adjusters, if equipped, child safety seat tether bracket assemblies, if equipped, and attaching hardware
should be inspected after any collision. Mazda recommends new safety belt assemblies be installed unless a qualified technician finds the assemblies
show no damage and operate correctly. Safety belt assemblies not in use during a collision should also be inspected and new assemblies installed if either
damage or incorrect operation is noted.The Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) feature of the safety belt retractor must be checked by a qualified
technician to verify that the ALR feature for a child seat is functioning properly, in addition to other checks for proper safety belt system function. A belt
and retractor assembly must be replaced if the safety belt assembly's "automatic locking retractor" feature or any other safety belt function is not
operating properly when inspected according to the functional inspection procedures. Failure to replace the belt and retractor assembly could increase the
risk of injury in collisions.

WARNING: If the side air bag sensor is subjected to shock or the sensor is disassembled, the side air bag module may operate (deploy) suddenly and
cause injury, or it may fail to operate normally and cause a serious accident. Do not subject the side air bag sensor to shock or disassemble the sensor. 

1. When servicing the rear safety belt buckle, depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS). See  See: Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming/Service
and Repair/Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering And Repowering.

2. Pivot the seat bottom forward.

3. Pivot the seat backrest back.

4. Remove the safety belt and buckle assembly. 

a. Position the carpet out of the way.

b. Using the special tool, remove the bolt.

c. Remove the safety belt and buckle assembly.

5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

NOTE: Make sure the safety belt webbing is not twisted after repositioning the seat. Make sure that the safety belt and buckle are accessible after
repositioning the seat. Make sure to tighten the bolt to specification. 

6. Check the restraint system for correct operation.
