Oil Filter: Service and Repair

OIL FILTER ELEMENT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - HYBRID

Removal

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position in on a hoist. See  See: Vehicle Lifting/Service and Repair/Lifting.

2. Loosen the oil filter drain plug.

3. Using a cup-style filter wrench, loosen the oil filter cover one turn.

4. Remove the oil filter drain plug and drain the engine oil from the oil filter and adapter.

Remove and discard the oil filter drain plug O-ring seal.

5. Remove the oil filter cover and oil filter element.

Discard the oil filter element.

-

Remove and discard the oil filter cover O-ring seal.

Installation

1. Wipe clean the oil filter cover and mounting surface on the oil filter adapter.

2. Install a new oil filter cover O-ring seal.

NOTE:Lubricate the oil filter cover O-ring seal with clean engine oil. 

3. Install a new oil filter element and the oil filter cover.

Using a cup-style oil filter wrench, tighten to 33 Nm {3.3 kgf-m, 24 ft-lbf}.

CAUTION:Do not overtighten the oil filter cover. Overtightening the oil filter cover may damage the cover or O-ring seal and result in an oil leak. 

4. Install a new oil filter drain plug O-ring seal.

NOTE:Lubricate the oil filter drain plug O-ring seal with clean engine oil. 

5. Install the oil filter drain plug.

Tighten to 10 Nm {1.0 kgf-m, 89 in-lbf}.

CAUTION:Do not overtighten the oil filter drain plug. Overtightening the oil filter drain plug may damage the drain plug, O-ring seal or cover and
result in an oil leak.
