Axle Shaft Assembly: Service and Repair
Front Axle / Intermediate Shaft Removal/Installation
INTERMEDIATE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
NOTE:3.0L engine shown; 2.5L engine similar.
1. Remove the RH front drive halfshaft. See See: Front Axle / Front Drive Halfshafts Removal/Installation.
NOTE:If removing the intermediate shaft in order to repair a separate component, it should only be removed as an assembly with the RH front drive
halfshaft.
2. Remove the 2 intermediate shaft bearing retainer nuts.

To install, tighten to 27 Nm {2.6 kgf-m, 20 ft-lbf}.

3. Remove the intermediate shaft.
CAUTION:On All-Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicles, the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) seal must be replaced every time the intermediate shaft is removed.
