Instrument Panel Control Module: Service and Repair
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MODULE (ICM) PROGRAMMING
NOTE: The ignition key must be in Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO) position unless instructed otherwise.
NOTE: Make sure the battery is at 12 volts or higher for programming. All procedures require using NGS flash cable (49G0-88-0110).
Retrieving Data from Original ICM and Restoring Data to New ICM
NOTE: This procedure is used when replacing the original ICM with a new ICM. Do not replace the ICM until instructed to do so.
NOTE: Odometer cannot be changed during reprogramming. Record exact mileage for sticker installation.
1. Turn Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO) and record odometer mileage. Turn Key OFF.
2. Connect NGS Tester and turn Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO).
3. Select correct Tribute model in Vehicle Selection (YF is for 14 and AJ is for V6).
4. Select Diagnostic Data Link and press Trigger.
5. Select ICM and press Trigger.
6. Select Programmable Module Installation and press Trigger.
7. Screen displays "Verify ignition is ON and press Trigger". Press Trigger.
NOTE: During this period, meter gauge needles will move to maximum reading for 2-3 seconds before returning to rest, odometer will display
"d16A" 2-3 times before returning to normal state and chimes will sound.
8. Screen displays "Determining ICM protocol" and then the Retrieve/Restore Module Configuration menu. Select Retrieve Module Configuration -
Old ECU and press Trigger.
9. Screen displays warning "Data can only be stored in NGS for 48 hours". If any data was previously stored for an ICM of another vehicle, this data
will be lost. Press Trigger to continue.
NOTE: During this period, meter gauge needles will move to maximum reading for 2-3 seconds before returning to rest, odometer will display
"d16A" 2-3 times before returning to normal state and chimes will sound.
10. Screen displays "Verifying stored data" followed by "Finding VID block" and "Finding VIN from PCM". Screen then displays "Running self-test"
followed by the Retrieve/Restore Module Configuration menu. Select Retrieve Module Configuration new ECU, but do not press Trigger.
11. Turn Key OFF and leave NGS Tester connected.
12. Replace ICM.
13. Turn Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO) and press Trigger. Screen displays "Finding VID block" followed by "Retrieving VIN from PCM
"'"Restoring method 1", "Downloading module configuration" and "Module download successful" when finished.
14. Turn Key OFF and disconnect the NGS Tester.
NOTE: Odometer cannot be changed. Install odometer sticker with correct mileage on driver's door jam at "A" pillar.
Downloading Data from PCM to ICM
NOTE: This procedure is used if ICM data cannot be retrieved from the original ICM when replacing
1. Turn Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO) and record odometer mileage. Turn Key OFF.
2. Connect NGS Tester and turn Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO).
3. Select correct Tribute model in Vehicle Selection (YF is for 14 and AJ is for V6).
4. Select Diagnostic Data Link and press Trigger.
5. Select ICM and press Trigger.
6. Select Programmable Module Installation and press Trigger.
7. Screen displays "Verify ignition is ON and press Trigger". Press Trigger.
