WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATION

This bulletin supersedes 01-014/01, issued 08/14/2001. The REPAIR PROCEDURE has been updated.

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS

All 2001 Tribute 3.0L built before 7/27/01.

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may intermittently indicate a false low coolant warning lamp. This may be caused by the coolant sensor float sinking in the coolant
recovery (degas) tank. This may also occur when coolant in the tank is at the full mark. A new coolant recovery (degas) tank with a modified float and
sender is available to address this concern.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1.

Verify customer concern.

To verify bottle is full, fill the bottle above the middle seam about 1/2 inch (12 mm). Vehicles produced before July 27, 2001 with the 3.0L
Duratec engine have incorrect COLD FILL RANGE lines. It may appear that the tank is full even though it is not.

If the low coolant warning turns off no repair is required. Return the vehicle to the customer.

If the low coolant warning stays on, proceed to Step 3.

Replace the coolant recovery (degas) tank according to Workshop Manual (section 01-12B) DEGAS BOTTLE.

4.

Verify repair.
