190D 2.5 (201.126) L5-2.5L DSL (602.911) (1987)
Procedure
1.
Check vibration damper circumference for chafing marks and missing rollers (arrows). Replace front shaft, if chafing marks or missing roller
condition exists (Figure 1).
2.
Remove exhaust shielding plate. Unflange propeller shaft at transmission and rear axle. Loosen clamping nut and unscrew propeller shaft
intermediate bearing on body floor. Rotate and pull shaft slightly to rear.
3.
Inspect bronze bushing in centering sleeve of front shaft for wear. Take three measurements of the inside diameter 60~ apart. The inside diameter
at any point should measure 16.00 mm. The centering sleeve must be replaced if the bushing is oval up to a dimension of 16.5 mm (see repair
instructions on microfilm groups 25, 29, 41, job no. 41- 200).
FIGURE 2 - CENTER SLEEVE INSTALLATION
NOTE:
The installation depth (a) for the centering sleeve from the upper edge to the flange surface must measure 32.5 mm (Figure 2).
4.
Replace front propeller shaft if the inner diameter at any point exceeds 16.5 mm.
5.
Before reinstalling propeller shaft, the bushings of the front and rear centering sleeves must be greased with longterm grease (see MB
Specifications for Service Products 266.2 for approved greases).
6.
After completing the procedure and the propeller shaft has been reinstalled, mark flexible coupling with several white dots, so that at least one
white dot is visible in any propeller shaft position.
