Name of road to turn down next

On roads without names the compass direction (North, South, East and West) is specified. The compass direction is omitted in the case of streets (e.g. in
towns) that are designated by name. The voice data is originally stored on the navigation DVD as individual word segments. This data record is
automatically transmitted from the DVD to the navigation processor of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3), where it is stored. The
navigation processor combines these word segments into complete instructions or information and generates appropriate signals.

If necessary, the signals that are generated in this way are relayed via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the audio signal processing in the
audio gateway control unit (N93/1), where they are amplified and then output via the vehicle speakers.

Several driving recommendations in quick succession are combined into a single voice output.

The Voice Control System (VCS) that is integrated in the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) currently only supports the Japanese
language. If the internal Voice Control System is activated, a signal is heard that is generated in the COMAND operating, display and control unit
(A40/3).

Voice output control for navigation

If a major emergency message is transmitted, the audio output consists only of this message as this has absolute priority and must not be interrupted by
any other message. If the volume is altered during a navigation system voice output, this is regarded as the absolute level for the next navigation system
voice output. For the volume setting, the following options exist:

Setting of a minimum difference between the audio source volume and the navigation voice output

Setting of a minimum difference between the navigation voice output and the audio source

^

If the volume of the audio source is less than the navigation voice output to be heard, the level of the audio source does not change.

If the level of the audio source is the same or louder, it is set below the level of the current navigation voice output during navigation system voice
output. As soon as the voice output is ended, the volume of the audio source is restored to the original setting prior to the voice output.

Both the audio source and the navigation voice output can have the same volume, but he navigation voice output can also be faded out completely.

The navigation voice output has the basic minimum and maximum noise level values. During the navigation voice output the volume cannot be adjusted
below the minimum noise level or above the maximum noise level. In this case the minimum level or maximum level is retained for the next navigation
system voice output when navigation system voice output is complete.

Voice output mute circuit

The navigation voice output can be muted by pressing the "MUTE" button for t <=2 seconds during a voice output. The mute feature applies only for the
current voice output. If the "MUTE" button is pressed for t >=2 sec., a window appears on the screen containing the text "Driving Instructions Muted".

Automatically at the end of the current route guidance

If a traffic announcement arrives while navigation voice output is taking place, the first press of the "MUTE" button mutes the traffic announcement, and
a second press causes the navigation voice output to be muted. The Mute state for a traffic announcement only applies to the current announcement.
