Drive Belt Tensioner: Service Precautions
WARNING:
Do not allow drive belt tensioner (6B209) to snap back as damage to drive belt tensioner or personal injury could result.
CAUTION:
Accessory Drive Belt Tension
Drive belts (8620) must be properly adjusted at all times.
Loose drive belts will result in slippage which may cause a noise condition or improper accessory operation (e.g., the generator will not
charge).
Over-tightened drive belts will place an unnecessary load on the accessory bearings.
NOTE:

Minor cracks in the V-grooved portion of the serpentine drive belt (8620) are considered normal and acceptable. If the drive belt has chunks
missing from the ribs, the drive belt should be replaced.

When an accessory drive belt is replaced or reinstalled after a service procedure, the drive belt does not fully seat into pulley grooves until engine
has run for several minutes.
