Oil Filter: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Position oil drain pan under oil filter.
3. Unscrew oil filter using an oil filter wrench.
CAUTION: Check that rubber oil filter gasket is not stuck to engine block sealing surface.
4. Clean the oil bypass filter sealing surface on engine oil cooler with a clean cloth. If scraping is required, use only a plastic-tipped scraper to
prevent damaging the sealing surfaces.
INSTALLATION
1. Coat the gasket on the oil bypass filter with clean engine oil meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-F.
3. Place oil bypass filter in position on the oil filter mounting insert. Hand-tighten the oil bypass filter until the gasket contacts the sealing surface,
then advance it 3/4-1 turn or tighten to 13-15 Nm (10-11 ft. lbs.).
4. Lower vehicle and check the oil level and add oil as required to bring to specified level.
5. With engine oil in the crankcase, operate the engine at fast idle and check for oil leaks. If oil leaks are evident, perform the necessary service to
correct leakage.
