Compressor Clutch Coil: Service and Repair
A/C CLUTCH FIELD COIL
NOTE: The A/C clutch field coil is pressed on the front head of the A/C compressor. Special service tools are required to remove and install the A/C
clutch field coil.
REMOVAL
1. CAUTION: Do not use air tools. The A/C clutch field coil can be easily damaged.
Remove the A/C compressor from vehicle.
2. Remove the A/C clutch and A/C clutch pulley.
3. Note location of A/C clutch field coil electrical connector on A/C compressor housing prior to removal so that it can be reinstalled in the same
location.
4. CAUTION: Failure to use Shaft Protector for Coil Removal T89P-19623-FH may result in damage to the A/C compressor making the A/C
compressor unusable.
Install Shaft Protector for Coil Removal T89P-19623-FH on the nose opening of the A/C compressor.
5. NOTE: Pulley Puller D81P-19703-B or equivalent may be used as an alternative to T77F-4220-B1.
Install Differential Side Bearing Puller T77F-4220-B1 on the A/C compressor. Place the tip of the puller forcing screw in the center pilot of the
shaft protector and the jaws of the puller around the back edge of the A/C clutch field coil.
6. Tighten the puller forcing screw to pull the A/C clutch field coil from the A/C compressor head.
INSTALLATION
1. CAUTION: Do not use air tools. The A/C clutch field coil can be easily damaged.
Clean the coil mounting surface on the front head to remove any dirt or corrosion.
2. With the A/C compressor in a vertical position (nose up), place the A/C clutch field coil in position on the compressor front head. Make sure the
A/C clutch field coil electrical connector is positioned correctly as noted during removal.
