REMOVAL

NOTE:  If a frame contact hoist is used, a jackstand must be placed under the lower suspension arm to raise it to normal position when at curb
height.

1. Raise vehicle on hoist. Position jackstand under lower rear suspension arm and bushing.
2. Remove wheel and tire assembly.
3. Remove bolt retaining the rear brake hose support bracket and rear brake hose.

NOTE:  Care should be taken to make sure rear brake hose is not kinked or stretched.

4. If equipped with disc brakes, remove rear disc brake caliper from rear disc brake adapter and hang out of way with a piece of wire.
5. If equipped with disc brakes, remove rear disc brake rotor, wheel hub, rear wheel disc brake shield, rear brake anti-lock sensor.
6. If equipped with drum brakes, remove retaining nuts, brake drum and wheel hub.
7. If equipped with drum brakes, remove four bolts retaining brake backing plate to the rear wheel spindle. Remove brake backing plate from rear

wheel spindle and hang it out of way with a piece of wire.

8. Remove and discard nut retaining rear suspension tension strut and bushing to rear wheel spindle.
9. Remove and discard upper ball joint nut. Separate upper ball joint from rear wheel spindle.

10. Remove and discard bolts and nuts attaching lower rear suspension arm and bushing to rear wheel spindle.
11. Remove rear wheel spindle.

INSTALLATION

1. Position rear wheel spindle on rear suspension tension strut and bushing and into rear suspension arm and bushing.
2. Install rear wheel spindle-to-lower suspension arm bolts and nuts. Do not tighten at this time.
3. Install upper ball joint into rear suspension arm and bushing and install new nut. Tighten nut to 68-92 Nm (50-67 ft. lbs.).
4. Tighten rear wheel spindle-to-lower suspension arm bolts to 68-92 Nm (50-67 ft. lbs.).
5. Install rear suspension tie rod bushing, washer and new nut on rear suspension tension strut and bushing, Tighten nut to 47-63 Nm (35-46 ft. lbs.).
6. If equipped with drum brakes, install brake backing plate, wheel hub and brake drum.
7. If equipped with disc brakes, install rear disc brake adapter, rear brake anti-lock sensor, rear wheel disc brake shield, wheel hub, rear disc brake

rotor and rear disc brake caliper.

8. Install rear brake hose and bracket to body. Tighten bolt to 12-15 Nm (106-132 inch lbs). Install shock absorber onto rear wheel spindle.
9. Install wheel and tire assembly. Tighten lug nuts to 114-142 Nm (85-104 ft. lbs.).

10. Remove jackstand and lower vehicle.
11. Check rear wheel alignment.
