Wheel Bearing: Adjustments

Rear Wheel Bearing Assembly

EXCEPT ALL WHEEL DRIVE MODELS

1.

Raise and support vehicle. Remove dust cover from hub. Remove wheel assembly, if necessary.

2.

Remove cotter pin and nut retainer.

3.

Back off adjusting nut 1 full turn.

4.

Torque adjusting nut, Fig. 7, to 17-25 ft. lbs., while rotating drum assembly.

5.

Back off adjusting nut 1/2 turn, then retighten adjusting nut to 10-15 inch lbs. Position adjusting nut retainer over nut so slots are aligned with
cotter pin hole, then install cotter pin.

6.

Install dust cover, wheel assembly, if necessary and lower vehicle to ground.
