Brake Caliper: Service and Repair
Disassembly and Assembly
1. Remove the front disc brake caliper.
2. Open the bleeder screw and drain any remaining brake fluid from the front disc brake caliper. After draining the fluid, close the bleeder screw.
3. Position shop towels between the front disc brake caliper and the caliper piston.
Remove Caliper Piston With Compressed Air
4. Apply air pressure through the brake hose fitting to remove the caliper piston.
WARNING: DO NOT USE AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF AIR PRESSURE TO REMOVE THE CALIPER PISTON. EXCESSIVE
PRESSURE CAN FORCE THE CALIPER PISTON OUT OF THE FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER BORE WITH
ENOUGH FORCE TO CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY. NEVER ATTEMPT TO CATCH THE CALIPER PISTON BY
HAND AS IT COMES OUT OF THE FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER BORE.
NOTE: Apply only enough air pressure to ease the caliper piston out of the front disc brake caliper.
5. Remove the caliper piston.
