Arming and Disarming
DEACTIVATION PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
WARNING: To avoid accidental deployment and possible personal injury, the backup power supply must be depleted before repairing
or installing any new air bag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) components. To deplete the backup power supply energy, disconnect
the battery ground cable and wait three minutes. Be sure to disconnect auxiliary batteries and power supplies (if so equipped).
2. Wait three minutes. This is the time required for the air bag diagnostic monitor backup power supply to deplete its stored energy.
3. Remove the cover panel on the lower portion of the steering wheel to gain access to the air bag module connector.
WARNING:

Carry a live air bag module with the air bag and trim cover pointed away from the body. This will reduce the risk of injury in the
event of an accidental deployment.

Do not set a live air bag module down with the trim cover face down.
4. Disconnect the driver air bag module connector and connect an air bag simulator to the vehicle harness.
5. Remove the passenger air bag module from the vehicle.

Do not set a live air bag module down with the trim cover face down.
6. Connect an air bag simulator to the vehicle harness.
7. Reconnect the battery ground cable.
REACTIVATION PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
WARNING: The air bag simulators must be removed and the air bag modules reconnected when the system is reactivated to avoid
non-deployment in a collision, resulting in possible personal injury.
2. Wait three minutes for the backup power supply in the air bag diagnostic monitor to deplete its stored energy.
3. Remove the air bag simulator from the vehicle harness and connect the driver air bag module.
4. Remove the air bag simulator from the vehicle harness and connect the passenger air bag module.
5. Connect the battery ground cable.
6. Prove out the system.
