Rear Cross-Member: Service and Repair

Replacing Rear Axle Carrier 

Remove exhaust. 

R53 only: 
Release rear half of battery main cable. 

R50 and R53:
Remove fuel tank.

Refer to bleeding brakes:

ABS/ASC+T.
ABS/DSC.

Adjust handbrake.

Apply pedal prop and depress brake pedal slightly. This will prevent brake fluid from escaping from expansion tank after brake pipes have been
disconnected (which would enable air to enter the braking system).

Disconnect brake pipes from hose (1) and subframe.

Rear brake pipe to hose connection .............................................................................................................................................................................  14 Nm

Release ABS sensor leads from subframe fixings.

Release cables from fuel tank (1). 

Remove bolts securing handbrake cable to subframe (2) and remove cable from subframe.
