Front Subframe: Service and Repair
Lowering/Raising Front Axle Carrier (Universal Lifter)

31 11 506 - Lowering/raising front axle carrier (universal lifter)

Special tools required:

Necessary preliminary tasks:

-

Remove front wheels See: Wheels and Tires/Wheels/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Removing or Installing Front or Rear Wheel.

If necessary, remove underbody protection.

-

Remove complete exhaust system.

-

Remove lower bumper trim.

-

Partially remove front left and right wheel arch covers See: Body and Frame/Fender/Front Fender/Front Fender Liner/Service and Repair.

-

R56: Partially remove underbody panelling on left and right.

-

If necessary, disconnect plug connection on ride-height sensor and expose line up to engine carrier

Important!

If the steering spindle is separated from the steering gear, this can result in damage to the steering-column switch cluster when the steering wheel is
turned!

Release screw (1).

Tightening torque 32 31 2AZ See: Steering/Steering Column/Specifications.
Detach lower section of steering spindle (2) from steering gear and swing towards rear.

Installation:

Clean thread to remove all remnants of screw securing adhesive.
