Front Subframe: Service and Repair
Replacing Front Axle Carrier

31 11 001 - Replacing front axle carrier

Note:

Replace self-tapping screws for mounting following components on front axle/engine carriers.

Steering gear

-

Bracket, control arm/retaining bar, stabilizer

-

Bumper bracket

-

Bracket, ride-height sensor

-

Front axle carrier (if replacing engine carriers)

Necessary preliminary tasks:

-

Lower front axle support

-

Remove both tie rod ends from swivel bearing See: Steering/Tie Rod/Service and Repair/Replacing Left or Right Tie Rod

Remove both control arms from swivel bearing and front axle carrier See: Control Arm/Service and Repair/Front Axle/Removing and Installing
Left or Right Control Arm

Remove both stabilizer links from stabilizer See: Stabilizer Bar/Service and Repair/Front Axle/Removing and Installing/Replacing Push Rod
(Stabilizer Link) for Left/Right Stabilizer

Installation:

Use previous front axle carrier as a template for modifying or replacing small parts.

Modify stabilizer See: Stabilizer Bar/Service and Repair/Front Axle/Removing and Installing/Replacing Front Stabilizer.

If necessary, modify ride-height sensor See: Sensors and Switches - Suspension/Ride Height Sensor/Service and Repair/Replacing Front Ride-Height
Sensor.
Modify both control arms See: Control Arm/Service and Repair/Front Axle/Removing and Installing Left or Right Control Arm.
Modify steering gear See: Steering/Steering Gear/Service and Repair/Removing and Installing/Replacing Electric Steering Gear (EPS).
Modify both bumper brackets See: Body and Frame/Bumper/Front Bumper/Front Bumper Bracket/Service and Repair.
