Constant Velocity Joint Boot: Technical Service Bulletins
Drivetrain - Driveshaft Servicing
NO.: TSB-93-26-001
DATE: May, 1993
MODEL: See Below
SUBJECT:
DRIVESHAFT SERVICING
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
To increase driveshaft service life, the material used to make the outer Birfield Joint (BJ) driveshaft boots has been changed from rubber to resin. The
new resin boot has approximately twice the life of the previous rubber boot. The inner Tripod Joint (TJ) driveshaft boots are still made from rubber.
Because of the BJ boot change, this bulletin describes which driveshaft components are repairable and which must be replaced when servicing
driveshafts on several 1993 vehicles and the 1994 Galant.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
1993 Diamante
1993 Expo/Expo LRV
1993 Mirage
1993 Montero
1993 300OGT
1994 Galant
DESCRIPTION
If the Tripod Joint and/or inner driveshaft boot requires servicing, the TJ components may be replaced separately. But, if any of the affected vehicles
requires Birfield Joint repair and/or outer driveshaft boot replacement, the entire side of the driveshaft must be replaced as a unit.
In addition, the right-side and left-side driveshafts used on affected vehicles are not interchangeable with driveshafts used on previous model year
vehicles.
Refer to the illustration.
NOTE:
For proper removal and servicing of driveshaft components, refer to Group 26 of the appropriate vehicle's service manual.
