AVAILABILITY OF NEW SPEEDOMETER DRIVEN GEAR
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
On some 1991-93 3000GT VR-4s, customers may complain that the speed indicated on their speedometer is slightly higher than actual vehicle speed.
This bulletin explains how to verify the condition and how to correct it by installing a new speedometer driven gear.
NOTE:
3000GT VR-4s built from 02/01/93 are already equipped with the new speedometer driven gear. These vehicles do not require corrective action.
VEHICLES AFFECTED
1991-93 3000GT VR-4 (Except as noted above.)
VERIFICATION
If a customer complains of speedometer readings slightly higher than actual vehicle speed, conduct the following test to measure speedometer accuracy.
1.
Drive the vehicle over a measured one-mile distance and record the odometer reading.
2.
If the odometer reading is within +/- 4% of the actual distance traveled, no corrective action is necessary. A reading within +/- 4% is the SAE
Standard for speedometer accuracy.
3.
If the odometer reading is over +/- 4% of the actual distance traveled, replace the speedometer driven gear as outlined in the following procedure.
REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE FOR SPEEDOMETER DRIVEN GEAR
WARNING:
Observe standard shop safety practices while performing this procedure.
1.
Record all radio station pre-sets.
2.
Remove the battery hold-down, battery shield, and battery from the vehicle.
Between the engine and bulkhead, the speedometer gear should be visible on the transaxle.
