Under certain conditions, the air conditioner drive belt may come in contact with the plastic mud shield mounted on the left side of the rear engine
compartment crossmember. (See illustration below.)

When this interference occurs, the vehicle owner may complain about a drumming sound during deceleration.
REPAIR PROCEDURE

Remove and discard the mud shield.

Tests have shown that the mud shield is not needed and therefore the installation of the mud shield was discontinued in production as of April 4, 1983.
