Install the timing belt "A" tensioner spring, tensioner spacer and tensioner with the end of the spring resting against the water pump housing.. Fig.

Push the tensioner towards the water pump and tighten the bolt slightly (to hold the tensioner out of the way). Fig. 18.

Align the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets with their respective timing marks. Fig. 19.

From under the vehicle. remove the bolt/plug at the back of the left silent shaft casting on the engine block. Fig. 20.

Insert a Phillips head screwdriver (shaft diameter .31 in./8 mm) into the opening. Fig. 20.
a. If the screw driver can be inserted more than 2.36 in., the shaft is in the correct position. Fig. 20.
a. If the screwdriver can only be inserted approximately 3/4 in., turn the shaft one rotation and recheck. Fig. 20.
NOTE:The left silent shaft operates via a gear reduction assembly. It is possible to have the timing marks aligned and the shaft may still be
out-of-time. If the gear returns to the mark when turned a 1/4 inch in each direction off center, the timing is correct. If the engine vibrates
after assembly, the timing of the left silent shaft may be incorrect.
