PURPOSE This bulletin contains installation instructions for replacing the exhaust manifold on 1984 turbocharged Cordia and Tredia models. Since the
replacement exhaust manifold is a 1985 part, new heat protectors and other parts are required. These are included in the Exhaust Manifold Replacement
Kit #MD097215.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
I.
Removal
1.
Obtain kit #MD097215. Inspect the contents to be sure all parts are included:
1 exhaust manifold 1 gasket-exhaust manifold to cylinder head 1 gasket-exhaust manifold to turbo housing 1 heat protector 1 heat shield 1 heat
protector stay 6 washers, 8mm 3 washers, 10mm 3 bolts Ml0X27 1 nut M10 2 studs 4 flange bolts M8X12
Steps 2-6
2.
Disconnect the temperature and oxygen sensors.
3.
Remove the air intake pipe.
4.
Release the accelerator and cruise control cables from their brackets on the injection mixer.
5.
Remove the secondary air pipe and reed valve assembly.
6.
Remove and discard the three heat shields.
7.
Disconnect the turbo oil inlet pipe at the cylinder head.
Steps 8 and 9
8.
Remove the two bolts and nuts connecting the exhaust manifold to the turbo housing.
9.
Remove the two studs.
10.
Remove the exhaust manifold nuts, washers, and engine hanger.
11.
Pull off the exhaust manifold. Remove and discard both gaskets.
II. Installation
1.
Place new gaskets in position.
2.
Install the new exhaust manifold.
3.
Install the new stud, and position the heat protector stay over the stud.
5.
Install the three M10X27 bolts with 10mm washers.
6.
Install the M10 nut on the stud. Tighten the nut and three bolts to 49-68 N-m (37-50 lb-ft).
7.
Install the exhaust manifold washers, engine hanger, and nuts. Torque the nuts to 15-19 N-m (11-14 lb-ft).
8.
Connect the oil inlet pipe to the cylinder head. Torque the eye bolt to 14-19 N-m (10-14 ft-lb).
9.
Install the heat protector and heat shield.
NOTE:
Remember to install the clip to hold the oxygen sensor wire.
10.
Install the secondary air pipe. (A slight interference with the heat protector is normal).
