This bulletin supersedes TSB-91-52-003 dated October, 1991, which should be discarded.
PURPOSE
This Technical Service Bulletin describes how to correct an overly tight and rattling center console cup holder which may be found on some 1992
Diamantes.
DESCRIPTION
On some 1992 Diamantes, it may be difficult to place a beverage can into one of the openings of the cup holder. This condition occurs when the cup
support clips do not clear the rim of the dashboard. To correct this condition, the slider stop grooves on top of the cup holder case must be lengthened 3
mm. This will provide the extension needed to hold beverage cans properly in place.
Also, some cup holders may emit a rattling noise while the vehicle is in motion. To quiet the rattle, install two foam rubber strips at the back of the cup
holder. This can be done at the same time as the slider stop grooves are being lengthened.
The remainder of this bulletin describes how to modify the cup holder assembly.
Necessary Materials
Before beginning the modification procedure, the following materials should be easily accessible:

Foam rubber material

Double-sided tape
^
Magnetic screwdriver (not required, but helpful)
Modification Procedure
1.
To gain access to the floor console rear screws, move both front seats to the farthest forward position. Remove the two rear floor console screws.

Move the front seats rearward to expose the front screws of the floor console. Remove the two front screws and the two screws located underneath
the ash tray. Carefully slide the floor console up and over the gear selection lever to expose the lower screws of the audio panel. Refer to Figure 1.
