1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Release fuel system pressure.
3. Remove timing belt as outlined under TIMING BELT.
4. Drain engine coolant into a suitable container.
5. Replace engine water pump in numbered sequence shown in Figs. 47 and 48, noting the following during installation:

a. Coat inlet pipe O-ring with water to ease installation.
b. On DOHC engines, install water pump bolts in correct location, Fig. 49.
