Malfunction Indicator Lamp: Service and Repair

To clear codes stored in memory, after the problem has been diagnosed and repaired: 

1.

Record radio presets.

2.

Place ignition switch in OFF position. 

3.

Disconnect battery ground, for at least 16 seconds.

4.

Connect battery cable to terminal.

5.

With the engine warmed-up allow it to run at idle for 10 minutes.

NOTE:  The Malfunction Indicator (check engine) Lamp (MIL) should be illuminated when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position. When the
engine is started, the MIL should go OFF. If the MIL remains ON, a code has been stored in the Electronic Control Module.
