Canister Purge Solenoid: Testing and Inspection
Purge Control Solenoid
NOTE: Mark vacuum hose before diconnecting for reference when connecting.
1.
Disconnect the vacuum hoses (no stripe and red stripe), from the solenoid valve.
2.
Disconnect the solenoid electrical connector, at solenoid.
3.
Connect a hand held vacuum pump to the nipple the red striped hose was removed from.
4.
Apply a vacuum and check for air tightness when voltage is applied directly to the solenoid (using jumper wires).
- When battery voltage is applied, the vacuum should leak.
- When battery voltage is removed, the vacuum should hold.
5.
Verify that the resistance of the solenoid is between 36 - 44 ohms (at 68° F).
