Fuel Injector: Testing and Inspection
Injector Locations
To test the Injectors, located between the fuel rail and the head, proceed as follows.
Injector Audio Test
AUDIBLE CLICK TEST
Using a stethoscope (or suitable listening device), check the operational sound (click) made by the injectors (one at a time) during idle or cranking.
Clicks should be heard more often as the engine speed increases.
NOTE: Ensure that the sound from an adjacent injector is not being transmitted along the delivery pipe to an inoperative injector. Other injectors
may produce sound as they operate even if the injector under checking does not operate.
Injector Resistance Test
INJECTOR COIL RESISTANCE TEST
1.
Disconnect the connector for the injector.
2.
Measure the resistance between the terminals.
Acceptable Resistance Range:
13 - 16 ohms (@ 20°C/ 68°F)
NOTE: If an injector fails to click, and passes the resistance test, check for control signal to injector with noid light (or other suitable tester), before
condemning the injector. SEE COMPUTERS AND CONTROL SYSTEMS for injector control diagnosis.
