A/T 2-3 UPSHIFT CONCERNS
PURPOSE
Some customers may report harsh shifting during 2-3 upshift, typically at low-to-moderate acceleration. This condition is related to transaxle control
module (TCM) software programming.
A new, reprogrammed TCM is available to eliminate this condition. Replace the TCM with the new part listed in this bulletin.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
1997 Diamante models equipped with automatic transmission
PROCEDURE
1.
Using the MUT-II scan tool, check and record any diagnostic trouble codes. If necessary, refer to the appropriate DTC troubleshooting
information in the 1997 Diamante service manual.
2.
Disconnect the negative battery cable and tape the terminal.
3.
On both sides of the console, remove the carpet clips and turn back the carpet to expose the carpet reinforcements (metal plates).
4.
Remove the carpet reinforcements on both sides of the console.
5.
Remove the TCM harness attaching clip from the bracket.
6.
Loosen the three TCM attaching nuts.
7.
Loosen the two engine control module (ECM) attaching bolts. The fuel pump relay is attached with one of the bolts.
8.
Loosen the four air bag control unit (SRS ECU) attaching bolts.
9.
Disconnect the left and center TCM harness connectors. Do not disconnect the right side TCM connector at this time.
