Disconnect and remove the SRS ECU from the driver's side.

Move the TCM and ECM toward the driver's side. Press the accelerator pedal and move their electrical harnesses out of the way.

Disconnect the right side TCM connector and remove the TCM. Take care to prevent damaging the SRS ECU label when removing the TCM.
13.
Verify that the TCM has not already been replaced by checking the identification (I.D.) number. New, reprogrammed TCMs have I.D. numbers
with "E3". The location of "E3" in the I.D. number may vary.
a.
If the identification number has "E3" and the vehicle has been confirmed as having harsh 2-3 upshift, STOP. Do not replace the TCM. Refer
to the troubleshooting section of Group 23 in the 1997 Diamante service manual.
b.
If the identification number does not have "E3", continue with Step 14 of this procedure.
14.
Using a black permanent felt-tip marker, draw a large "X" on top of the old TCM.
15.
Install the new TCM, using the part listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin. Using a black permanent felt-tip marker, draw a
black dot on the right side TCM bracket to identify it as a reprogrammed TCM. Take care to prevent bending the heater
! CAUTION
Take care to prevent bending the heater ventilation select lever linkage.
IMPORTANT:
When connecting the TCM and SRS ECU harness connectors, be sure to push in the connectors completely (a "click" sound will be heard).
16.
Connect the TCM harness connectors.
17.
Tighten the SRS ECU attaching bolts to 5 Nm (4 ft-lbs). Reconnect the SRS ECU harness connectors.
18.
Tighten the ECM attaching bolts to 5 Nm (4 ft-lbs).
19.
Reinstall the carpet reinforcements.
20.
Reinstall the carpet, taking care not to cover the heater vent on the driver's side.
21.
Reconnect the negative battery cable.
22.
Test drive the vehicle to confirm proper shift operation.
