Parking Brake System: Adjustments
1. Pull parking brake lever with a force of approximately 45 lbs. and count number of clicks. Lever stroke should be three to five clicks.
2. If parking brake lever stroke is not within specifications, proceed as follows:
a. Remove cup holder and plug then loosen the adjusting nut on parking brake cable end so cable becomes free.
b. With engine idling, depress brake pedal several times and confirm that the pedal stroke stops changing. If pedal stroke stops changing, it
indicates that automatic adjusting mechanism is functioning properly to adjust clearance between pads and disc to correct value.
c. Disconnect driveshaft and companion flange.

d. Remove rotor adjusting hole plug and turn adjuster in direction shown in Fig. 11, until brake is slightly applied.
e. Turn adjuster five notches in opposite direction to obtain the 0.0075 inch shoe to drum clearance.
f.
Turn parking brake cable adjusting nut to obtain a lever stroke of three to five clicks.
g. After adjustment, ensure there is no play between the adjuster nut and pin.
h. After adjustments have been made, ensure parking brake operates properly.
