SRS DIAGNOSTIC UPDATE

PURPOSE
This bulletin describes Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) changes which affect system servicing.
Within the 1992-93 Diamante and the 1992-93 3000GT Service Manuals, the manual states "Wait at least 30 seconds after disconnecting the battery
cable before doing any further work."
WARNING:
The 1992-93 Diamante and the 1992-93 3000GT SRS system stores energy for 60 seconds. The battery must be disconnected, the terminal wrapped
with tape and at least 60 seconds should pass before servicing any part of the system. Unintended deployment of the air bag may result if the vehicle
is worked on prior to the end of the 60 second waiting period.
Please change the 30 seconds to 60 seconds in the appropriate service manual.
DIAGNOSTIC CODE UPDATE
A system enhancement was made to the SRS diagnostic unit on 1992 Diamante and the 1992 3000GT vehicles manufactured from April 20, 1992. The
SRS diagnostic unit will automatically erase codes 33, 34, 41, 42, and 43 if the condition which caused the code returns to normal after approximately 5
seconds.
Diagnostic codes 33, 34, 41, 42, and 43 are related to power supplying the SRS system and the SRS warning light. If the SRS system detects a power
loss condition it will set the appropriate code immediately, then, when the condition returns to normal for at least 5 seconds the diagnostic unit will
automatically erase the code. The MUT is not necessary to erase these codes.
For example: on newer systems, if a vehicle's battery is partially discharged and the vehicle is started, the low battery voltage will set a diagnostic code
and turn on the SRS warning light. Once the vehicle starts and power is restored to normal levels, the newer SRS diagnostic unit will erase the code and
turn off the SRS warning light if no other diagnostic codes are stored. On older systems, the diagnostic unit would remember the condition, turn on the
SRS warning light and require using the MUT to erase the codes.
The newer SRS diagnostic unit has been programmed not to count and remember the number of these trouble instances.
NOTE:
If there is a problem inside the SRS diagnostic unit relating to codes 41, 42, and 43, the codes will not be erased automatically.
