Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair
With Manual Transmission/Transaxle
REMOVAL
1. Remove transaxle assembly. Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain.
2. Remove clutch cover and clutch disc.
3. Follow removal procedure outlined in illustration.
INSTALLATION
1. Follow removal procedure in reverse order noting the following.
CAUTION: If burr or scratch is present on the crankshaft edge (chamber), clean surface with 400 grit sand paper to prevent seal damage during
installation of new seal.
NOTE: When installing seal, no lube on seal is needed.
2. Place oil seal pilot installation tool No. MB995059, or equivalent, on crankshaft. This is a pilot tool has a magnetic base.
3. Position seal over pilot tool. Make sure you can read the words "THIS SIDE OUT" on seal. Pilot tool should remain on crankshaft during
